5 Minutes with Pertemps
Wes Fortune, Branch Manager
Tell us a bit about your background before Pertemps?
Recruitment, Recruitment, Recruitment – prior to joining Pertemps I have held a number of positions starting 16 long years ago. I started as a Recruitment Consultant in Stockport in 2002 moving through 2 other recruiters working in a variety of roles – Business Development Manager, Account Director and most recently Project Manager.
What’s the most challenging part of your job?
Quite simply – people.
People are my business and you can never predict what they are going to do, act or say. I have some interesting stories from over the years ranging from Micky Mouse ties to Iron Maiden T-shirts at interview.
Who or what inspires you?
My team – I want my team to be the best.
What advice would you give to anybody wanting to enter into the same industry?
Don’t do it unless you intend to stick at it! A lot of people join Recruitment to make a quick buck. I have seen so many good people come and go over the years.
As a recruiter you need to be able to spin multiple plates, deal with rejection, have the ability to sell and influence but most importantly be resilient.
In all the roles I have undertaken it has taken me at least 6 months to learn the role then an additional 6 months to become good at it.
This will sound really cliché but Recruitment isn’t a 9-5 job you need to commit time.
When you’re not thinking about Pertemps what are you doing?
Thinking about Recruitment!!
Out of work I try to keep fit and spend as much time with my family as possible.
